Delivering a 15-hour saving each week on inbound warehouse activity.
A busy warehouse team accepting 3,000 deliveries per week were wasting valuable time manually entering Advanced Shipping Notices (ASN) onto their ERP system – a task which should be completed by the supplier when they ship their goods.
With only 20% of deliveries arriving with pre-logged ASN numbers, a massive 80% needed entering manually, which accounted to around 20 hours per week of time being used inefficiently.
Solution
Working closely with the warehouse staff and company administrators to audit the daily inbound deliveries, our consultants could determine which suppliers were failing to input their ASN numbers before dispatching their deliveries.
Then, working with those suppliers, processes were improved, and technical glitches resolved. Over the coming months improvements became visible and time-efficiencies were being reported.
Outcome
Compliance from suppliers increased from 20% to 80%, equating to a tangible time saving of around 15 hours per week for the warehouse team. Inventory management and supply teams also benefitted greatly from improved visibility, with dispatch times being logged at the point of dispatch, eradicating the need for unnecessary phone calls and emails throughout the day.
In total, three areas of the business were able to spend more time on value-adding activity.
